My research activity consists in the application of statistical mechanical concepts, models and tools in the area of biological physics and soft condensed matter physics. Some of my recent research interest focuses on the topological features (knotting and linking) of fluctuating filaments and their impact on the static and dynamical properties in systems such as chromatin, melts of rings and long polymer chains under confinement. Other fields of interest are the formation and dynamics of topological defects in passive and active liquid crystals and the theory of normal and anomalous stochastic processes.

My research activity deals with computational biophysics in a broad sense, with particular emphasis on the use of tools and concepts from statistical mechanics. More recent research interests include the study of protein folding and aggregation/condensation kinetics by means of coarse-grained models, the detection and characterization of entangled motifs in protein native structures, the derivation of effective interaction potentials in protein systems. Other less recent research interests include the thermal melting and mechanical unzipping of DNA chains in simplified models, the diffusion of signal molecules in bacterial communication systems (quorum sensing), the prediction of amyloidogenic hot spots in protein sequences.

My research interest focuses on stochastic modelling and statistical analysis of thermal and active motion in disordered systems, with application to soft matter physics. In particular, my work covers topics related to stochastic processes & anomalous diffusion, as well as studies on non-Gaussian dynamics in colloidal glass-formers by means of Molecular Dynamics simulations and single-particle trajectory analysis.
